Who am I and what is my purpose?

Last Saturday I was teaching at a training event, using the material that I have put in this blog. It was such fun to see others taking back their voice and stepping out in the prophetic. May you be inspired and encouraged to trust God, dream big, step out, take risk and serve well.

Discovering who you really are and knowing your purpose in life. Enjoying a deepening relationship with your heavenly father as you journey together!

Every one of us find our identity by standing in our purpose, standing in the reason we are alive! There’s something reaffirming to us when we believe who God says we are!

“The disciples were looking for promotion to express their own greatness.

“Then the mother of James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to Jesus with her sons. She knelt respectfully to ask a favour. “What is your request?” he asked.

She replied, “In your Kingdom, please let my two sons sit in places of honour next to you, one on your right and the other on your left.”

Matt 20:20-21

Can you imagine this scene, the mother of James and John, they were grown men, not little boys. She is asking Jesus in front of the other disciples if they can sit either side of him in his kingdom!

She wants Jesus to commit, right now, to declaring James and John will sit at Jesus' right and left hand in His kingdom. At that time, the closer someone was seated to the king, the more power that person had in the kingdom.

“Then they began to argue among themselves about who would be the greatest among them. Jesus told them, “In this world the kings and great men lord it over their people, yet they are called ‘friends of the people.’ But among you it will be different. Those who are the greatest among you should take the lowest rank, and the leader should be like a servant. Who is more important, the one who sits at the table or the one who serves? The one who sits at the table, of course. But not here!

For I am among you as one who serves.

Promotion is connected to how we deal with what life throws at us!”

Like 22: 24-30

It’s interesting to note that Jesus didn’t get annoyed with them or wrote them off as sometimes happens in churches when someone gets promoted and it goes ‘to their head’ so they are removed! Jesus took a different approach, He recognised the gold inside of them and chose to mentor them and teach them through example that great leaders serve the body.

Jesus took a bowl and a towel and washed the disciple’s feet!

“So when He had finished washing their feet and had put on His garments and had sat down again, He said to them, Do you understand what I have done to you?

You call Me the Teacher (Master) and the Lord, and you are right in doing so, for that is what I am.

If I then, your Lord and Teacher (Master), have washed your feet, you ought [it is your duty, you are under obligation, you owe it] to wash one another’s feet.

For I have given you this as an example, so that you should do [in your turn] what I have done to you.

I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, A servant is not greater than his master, and no one who is sent is superior to the one who sent him.

If you know these things, blessed and happy and [a]to be envied are you if you practice them [if you act accordingly and really do them].

Jn 13:12-17

Peter was resisting having his feet washed, that’s often a picture of the believer who can feel unworthy and insignificant, believing the lies of the enemy and falling prey to John 10:10

“The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it [a]overflows).”

Jesus said to Peter that if he didn’t allow him to wash his feet then he could have no part of him! The word ‘part’ is akin to having shares in something! Having stocks and shares in God’s family business of which you are a son or a daughter.

The disciples destiny, that day, was impacted by water and a towel, because it reset their focus of what true greatness is!

In the book of Genesis God said this:

“God said, Let Us [Father, Son, and Holy Spirit] make mankind in Our image, after Our likeness, and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the [tame] beasts, and over all of the earth, and over everything that creeps upon the earth.

So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them.

And God blessed them and said to them, Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it [using all its vast resources in the service of God and man]; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and over every living creature that moves upon the earth”. Gen 1:26-28

At some point, the enemy came and said this to Adam and Eve:

“The serpent told the Woman, “You won’t die. God knows that the moment you eat from that tree, you’ll see what’s really going on. You’ll be just like God, knowing everything, ranging all the way from good to evil.” Gen 3:5

The enemy is manipulative, crafty and persistent. I believe he systematically spoke words to cause them to doubt what God had already spoken to them. They believed the lie. The truth was, they were already like God, he had already made them in his image and likeness, they already had daily fellowship with God in the cool of the day!

What has the devil lied to you about concerning your identity?

When there is a paternity issue a DNA test is conducted to identity who the daddy is!

Scientists have discovered in our DNA a genetic code, 10 5 6 5

These numbers that run throughout our DNA correspond to letters of the Jewish alphabet, YHWH. These letters spell Yahweh. God has signed his name, his signature on every cell in our bodies. (you can read the full account on my website youhaveavoiceministries.co.uk blog named Look for the signature April 5th 2024)

It gives a whole new meaning to being fearfully and wonderfully made! (psalm 139 TPT) Fathers give us our identity; they are also meant to provide protection and provision. When these vital things are missing in our lives, we can find it difficult to connect with God as our heavenly father and display the characteristics of being an orphan. The world is full of orphans looking for a dad to love them!

In all my years of teaching I have only ever had one child say to another child, “My mom is bigger than your dad!” He was right as well!

“He knew you before you were formed in your mother’s womb.”

Meaning, I have known you before there was a you to be known!

Our significance comes from what our heavenly father says about us!

It has been defined by almighty God’s willingness to serve you, to empower you into purpose.

Instead of revisiting your past, how about remembering that the King of Glory has a towel over his arm and he’s willing to serve you in your destiny and how could we ever build a kingdom around ourselves when we have been empowered by that!

When we know in our hearts the goodness of God towards us, he has honoured us as sons and daughters, chosen ones, not orphans, then we can rule with the heart of a servant and serve with the heart of a king!

You were born to invade the realms of impossibility, a co-labourer with Jesus to bring heaven to earth.

We owe the world an encounter with God! We have the same Holy Spirit, he lives on the inside of us, to lead us as He did Jesus when he walked the earth. It was the Holy Spirit who showed Jesus what the father was doing and saying.

It’s time to fulfil your purpose, your mission!

To dream big, to start taking risks, to really trust God and to serve well.

If you stop dreaming, you start to die. Children love being the superhero. Have you lost your childlikeness?

Orphans dream from a place of need survival. Sons and daughters dream of destiny, family assignments. We are the House of Yahweh, or Jehovah and kids!

“Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]” Eph 3:20 AMPC

“At that time, you won’t need to ask me for anything. I tell you the truth, you will ask the Father directly, and he will grant your request because you use my name”. John 16:23

Whatever you ask the father, emphasising the dream, we can ask whatever!

Because he is good he wants you to dream, our dreams are supposed to show, to unveil Him, to represent Him. Some of His nature can’t be seen because we have become robotic and religious in our thinking and doing!

If you have a lack of revelation and intimacy, go back to the secret place!

God’s given us a contract where we can ask anything.

God takes the lid off, he goes beyond the reach of our prayer life, beyond the reach of our imagination.

We are to take risks because nothing is impossible with God.

Theology without experience is a real disappointment.

He reveals Himself to us so we can know Him. Israel knew His works, Moses knew His ways, Moses had face time with God!

There is abiding faith and an active faith. One focused on identity, who we are in Christ, the other connected to our purpose.

Active faith stands on the shoulders of abiding faith!

Working from His accomplishments towards our mission!

It’s in the risk where we learn to hear the voice of God

I’m a Christian today because someone took a risk 40yrs ago!

Subtle invitations from God to step out. If you had a perfect 3 step plan it wouldn’t be a risk!

Because nothing is impossible for God he invites us and enables us to dream and to take risks.

Trusting in God is anchored to his sacrifice and victory at Calvary.

Real faith never draws attention to itself, real faith draws attention to the one who is totally trustworthy. Otherwise, it’s an orphan needing attention.

If Calvery isn’t enough, then what?

Who He is leads me to know who I am and leads me to my assignment my purpose in life!

He doesn’t lie or dangle carrots. He wants you to be fully convinced of His goodness, fully convinced that nothing is impossible, fully convinced that you have access to your needs being met and for you to walk in his love and power giving to others what you have freely received.

We thank the giver! We are just the delivery man,

Rom 8:28 all things work…Trust is anchored in this verse.

Enduring faith develops character, that shapes us in the process.

Serving well.

When you discover who you are, all you want to do is give it away.

Because God is good, you can dream big.

Because nothing is impossible, you can take risks.

Because Jesus’s blood paid for everything, you can trust God.

Because you’re significant you’ve been given the privilege to serve well.

These are behavioural traits of the family of God!

The commission is Mark 16, before they went, they had to stay!

In your staying you’re going to get something that will make your going work well!

God paints on the canvas of your mind. If your mind wasn’t valuable, it wouldn’t be renewable!

Holy Spirit possess our souls, give us a fresh baptism of fire, a fresh outpouring so that we can focus on your greatness, your power your dream to bring heaven to earth. Give us a gift of dissatisfaction.

Remove the labels that have been put on you and spoken over you to disqualify your voice.
